So with season 11 well under way for League and over 11 years old at this point League is in perpetual motion, nothing ever stays the same here on the rift and this season is no exception. This season brought a whole host of new changes, namely to the jungle directly. You can read the precise changes here: https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/news/game-updates/patch-11-5-notes/
This site also has previous patches to read through so feel free to scroll on through.
The general idea/consensus of these recent updates is that tank junglers are making a comeback, so dust off the ol' pig saddle and jump into the rift with champs like Sejuani and Nunu making their debut once again! (because who doesn't like a massive snowball barreling down your lane when you could've sworn you've just seen Nunu topside taking rift scuttler?)
But that aside let's get down to business, i'm sure some of the questions you may ask yourself are going to be things like; "what's meta this season?" or "who should I be perma-banning this season?" when what you should really ask yourself is "what is the most obscure thing to main in a role right now?" and THAT is a very good question indeed, let me break it down as to who and why for you, and why these are NOT troll picks for your chosen lane
Let's start with Top lane, "the island", now while many of you may be thinking of cheesy top lane champs like Vayne, Kallista or even Taric may be viable obscure picks, as much as they're up there, I'm gonna be selecting Bard for this one, here's why:
He's ranged, that's about all you need to know
His ability to bully melee top laners is almost unmatched when it comes to this guy, the permanent slows from his own kit and running glacial augment are a laners worst nightmare
Whether you're behind/in your wave or trying to skirt round the outside for creeps Bard can punish any CS you may be able to nab yourself by hitting you with a few auto's and even a Q. Before you know it you're headed back to the fountain (whether it's of your own accord or in a body bag)
His ability to set up ganks is insane, think your safe under tower? After lvl 6 a well placed R will see you well and truly grey-screened quicker than you can say "OOF"
His roaming potential is out of this world, swifty boots combined with his E plus meeps along the way? The enemy team will be spam pinging your top laner with "ss????" in no time.
In the late game Bard can provide a certain tankiness and peel for your carries to a pretty good standard so if you think you outscale, think again
Next we're gonna move in to the jungle, and while tanks are coming back into their own in this role we're sticking with random and obscure here, so next we've got Urgot, this one is sort of self explanatory for this one and if you don't believe me try it for yourself. His clear is actually quite quick and while his individual ganking potential may be lacking, with any CC laners they will die pretty quickly when they see the multi-legged Noxian charging them down while they frantically spam F. His ability so invade and solo take objectives is insanely annoying, once he's an item in he'll be out healing any tiny dinks you can put in his Armour and once he's in range he'll flip you like a krabby patty and serving you up with a side of chips to go soon enough he'll be bearing down your nexus with his multitude of knees firing at their own rate as well as himself, uncool dude. Jung diff am I right?
Moving on to the Mid lane we've got Rakan. Now unbelievably this is actually becoming slightly more common from my experience. His burst damage in the mid game is something to be feared and his laning in itself isn't terrible, he relies heavily on roaming as Rakan's home is in the support role. Once he has one item plus boots all he has to do is press R and W and you'll wake up back at the fountain if you're a squishy champ. Being the Vastayan charismatic guy he is, every time you want blood he'll quench that by teasing you with his tail feathers and by the time you've awoken from swooning you'll find that you've actually re-spawned. Awww man!
Now ADC is a highly fragile role, many champs have been tried and tested here and come out the other side having seen less than a single patch in the meta for the role. But alas we are going with Seraphine here, while technically yes she's better described as an APC rather than the previous this point is irrelevant, paired with Senna this champion has got to be the only pop star you wanna scream and run AWAY from especially in a team-fight, If you're team is lined up getting ready for a concert she will certainly deliver, sending her charm from your first team mate all the way back to the nexus if you're not careful, now that's what they call an encore. Don't be fooled by her looks, she is a bloodthirsty maniac who will run your team down raining notes (yes notes) onto your head and rooting you left and right, that combined with moonstone is a recipe for disaster, for your team. Breathe with your belly!
Finally we have support, now while I've seen a fair amount of obscure champs here, the best one has to be Kayle: originally designed as a support her lane healing and poke are progressively harder to deal with as the game goes on, once she hits 6 you can think again about trying to one shot her or her ADC as she will just press R and all that hard work has gone to waste, and if you've never faced a Kayle late game then you're in for a treat. Thanks Kayle
So that wraps up the most obscure picks for your role this season so far from my opinion, feel free to let me know what you think or maybe prove me right by trying some of these champs out yourself (in normal's of course)
